A great little video camera to drag with you anywhere and super easy to use.
I was skeptical of this little bugger when I first saw it, but my brother-in-law had one and once I played around with it I realized it was the perfect video camera for a trip or when you want something no fuss, no muss. I picked up a R600 for $179, but you can get a current day model for $250 or so if you shop around. If you are willing to go used from Amazon, you can definitely pick up a deal.
The camera has some slightly similar features to a full sized DSLR, in that you can pick focus point on the touch screen and it does automatic face detection. It doesn’t do so great in low light, and a room with heavy back-light will blow out your shot faster than you can saw “white balls of fire”, but if you are mindful of these things in the moment, it;s easy to work around them.
The microphone is on the tinny side, no huge shock there, but I double stick taped a nice shotgun mic to the top and plugged it in to get the quality of audio I need. The downside to that plan is the door does not fully shut, but that’s no huge deal to me.
This is a great little camera and perfect for young vloggers starting out or people who want an incredibly simple video camera to point at things when doing other things.
