This is like going from 8-track cassette to high quality MP3.
I can’t say enough good things about this equipment. This pro-sumer grade stuff and it shows.
I used a shotgun mic for a while, I used a headset mic for a few videos, I even tried the budget low end wireless mic kits you can get on ebay for $50 ish. (those were pure garbage) Eventually I had to suck it up and buy something that matched the quality of my video and this was the best bet for what I was able to afford.
Out of the box all you need to do is slap in batteries, turn both units on, wait a few seconds for them to find each other and then you are off to the races. The mic is perfectly clear, not too much bass, not too tinny. I am able to mount it to my shirts, my hoodies, and even my hat on occasion and the audio was always spot on. As a bonus, I never once got clothing noise when using this. On the cheap units Ive had to scrap an entire sessions worth of audio due to clothing rubbing on the mic, this RodeLink has no issues with that at all.
This was a very expensive purchase for me, only a few degrees behind the camera or a good lens, but if you are going to have high quality video, your audio can’t be crap. Honeslty, I wish I bought this unit much sooner and didn’t mess around with the generic shotgun mics or no brand wireless kits I ended up junking.
